Intermezzo – Telstar!
ZZ Anna-hunt-telstar-with-old-lady

This is a long overdue ode to my all time hero Joe Meek. Back in last year’s November, Phil Milstein had collected 23 Telstars tunes for his fine blog "Probe is Turning-On the Peoeple" (http://www.philxmilstein.com/probe). I’ve added some more versions from my archive sending it all to my pal Michael Zoot from garagetapes.blogspot who dug up more rare Telstars from far away parts of the globe such as Nicaragua, Finland and Costa Rica making ít up to 31,5 stellar tracks. So buckle up, check ignition, and push the go-button! (and don’t send me any more versions, I won’t handle it!)

Fortunately I didn't lose my marbles. That was my first time hearing the lyrical version. Very cool

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "lose my marbels" but if you refer to Camillo Felgen's Irgendwann, that was a staple at Radio Luxemburg and probably my first encounter to the world of Pop, too (tho' Camillo was soon substituted by slightly hipper heroes...)

glad you dug the set!

Awesome Comp!!

Hello, my apologies for not saying anything in a while - pretty much everything you post is worthy of a comment in my eyes.

On Telstar: the original Joe Meek demo was best I thought, while that version by the Luxembourg guy freAKED ME out a little and wins the weirdest rendition to massage my ears. Also quite worthy of a mention are: Laila Halme, The Tornados, Los Beats, Dave Adams, Bud Ashton & Marjana Deržaj.

Happy year 2015

Hey Nathan,

I'm glad you dig my selections. As for Camillo Felgens's Telstar, that was the opening track for a transmission called (I think) Top Twenty by Radio Luxembourg, apart from BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) the sole radio programm that would spin some British or US Beat in the early 60s in my place (Germany, Düsseldorf). Although he sure was a lame crooner his Telstar version is still in my ears.... Thanks for your kind linkes buddy!
