UN-LOST TOMMYKNOCKERS – THE RIP-EDITION, VOLUME 4
zzz frontcover
Right between two years, I couldn’t think of a better point in time to honor the Lolly Pope, creator of the un-forgettable original Beat Wunderbar / Tommyknocker-series, so here’s another RIP-edition I hope you won’t disdain. Unlike the previous 3 issues, the tracks I collected here were not on The Pope’s short-list but I’m pretty sure they might have been candidates or, at least, he would (will?) love to hear more sounds from some of his fave beat-combos from England. I just could resist the temptation to include some of my and Werner’s all time favorite bands so you might be familiar with several of the 32 tidbits I have chosen. Still I hope you’ll also find a few unheard gems, such as by the Pathfinders, the Sherwoods or the Shevelles. More info in the booklet attached, and lots of nice photos of the bands. Huge thanks go out to 94MikeJ and Fuzz Vag who generously share their collections on Youtube. So get ready for a marvelous new year, and I’d like to thank all my friends who appreciate this little site and send me their comments and corrections. Peace!

.. I agree on the Masterminds, I was much surprised since I just can't stand the Walker Brothers but this track here , although clearly a "hommage" to the Walkers, actually is so much better...

thx for writing!

Thanks, excellent compilation. I'm bet LP would be very proud. most of these seem like bands that probably well known in regional venue circuits. they're better than watching the big name bands that play in huge stadiums

you're absolutely right my friend.. this music was made TO DANCE AND ROMANCE to, preferably in sweaty cellars or small clubs where you could get in close touch with your partner, sure not for mega-concerts in huge stadiums where you needed a telescope to see the band and the sound was shitty as there were no PA-systems and the drums were not miked... this is what actually killed the Beat after, say, 1966... luckly, thanks to the passionate work of bloggers, youtubers and collectors after 45 years we can still take a dive in the beatcellars.. (I'm happy you dig my selection)

thanks for you appreciations, specially regarding the LP's heritage...

Hi Jerry
you might not believe it but your version of Chuck's most covered tune is one of my fave tracks here as it has a very special “private” atmosphere which in a pretty subtle way is growing on me the more I listen to it. (Three Step to Heaven, the flip-side no doubt is a winner as well). I don't remember where I dug this track up and I couldn't find any information on your group. Did you do any more recordings, maybe demos or acetates? I would love to feature more Bandits on a follow-up of this series.
Thanks for getting back, after 40+ years there still is some true fans around...
stay cool and best regards!
