UC154 – Girls with a Beat, part 4

For much too long I left the Girls behind, so here’s the first of three volumes dedicated to Ladies with a Beat! From Finland to Japan, from Turkey to New Zealand, from Germany to Mexico, in a time-warp from 63 to 74, I have selected girl groups and female voices that (mostly) didn’t make it to the official compilations. Strangely, the strict alphabetical order doesn’t spoil the overall-listening-fun I guess, most probably it’s that unique girlie touch which keeps it all together …? Once more, this selection proves that girls and brass fit greatly and you’ll get many a sounds with a strong beat and an urge to invade the dancing-floor. I’ll unleash volumes II and III in a few days, until then, I hope you’ll dig the first charge. Thanks to all bloggers and youtubers mentioned in the booklet, with special greetings to Graham Welch of the extraordinary http://www.readysteadygirls.eu and my pal, his highness the Lolly Pope from Roots and Traces http://spurensicherung.blogspot.it/ who kindly sent me some rare uncomped beauties.

I just finished listening to it and enjoyed it. One of my favorites on this comp is Anita Gordon's Scare-dy Cat from 1963 (the B-Side was Joey). All the guys listed who were on that session for this record were all part of Phil Spector's wrecking crew but it's a bit of an overstatement to say that most later became the house band for the TV show Shindig. Only Leon Russell was part of the Shindogs and Ray Pohlman the show's musical director. Other members of the Shindogs (at one time or another) were Glen Campbell - guitar, Joey Cooper - Rhythm Guitar, vocals Chuck Blackwell - drums, Billy Preston - keyboards, James Burton- Lead guitar, Delaney Bramlett- vocals, guitar, Larry Knechtel - bass, Leon Russell - piano, and Glen D. Hardin - piano
Also, song #8 & 9 are out of order or reversed on the file as opposed to the booklet and of course #8 (or 9 in the booklet) Anki Lindqvist_Paha Tyttö_FIN- is a cover of the Kinks You Really Got Me.
thanks again for the comp and accompanying booklet Scare-dy cat is my fave track too, simply awesome!!!! thx for the info and the correction to the playlist. I hope you'll dig vol. 2 the same!
best greetings! |
